Project is aimed at studying the aflatoxin contamination level in the staple foods included in the diet of the local population and providing the aflatoxin risk assessment for the first time in the Republic of Armenia (RA). The project has a significant scientific and applied value, as it aims to assess food safety in Armenia and introduce a risk-based effective management system.
The project objectives are:
- producing a relevant scientific and methodological database on assessment of mycotoxin exposure and associated risks
- assesssing aflatoxin contamination levels in dietary staple foods for the population
- a dietary exposure assessment of aflatoxin and risk characterization
- identifying at-risk foods and risk groups in light of aflatoxin exposure on the organism; assuring risk communication.
At the current stage of the project, the main focus is on studying the levels of aflatoxins in the food consumed by the population and assessing the potential risks associated with their exposure.
