Info Day at CENS

On April 28th an important meeting was held at the Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies of NAS RA — an Info Day on “Group on Earth Observations (GEO) ([www.earthobservations.org](http://www.earthobservations.org)): Armenia’s Membership and Strategic Development Prospects”.

The event was organized under the coordination and participation of the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia.

 The main purpose of the discussion was to present Armenia’s membership in the intergovernmental international organization GEO, as well as the country’s strategic development opportunities in the field of Earth observations.

Speakers included:

• Lilit Sahakyan – Director of CENS, NAS RA

• Sargis Hayotsyan – GEO Principal of Armenia, Chairman of the HESC MESCS RA

• Yana Gevorgyan – Director of the GEO Secretariat

• Shushanik Asmaryan – GEO Correspondence Contact for Armenia, Deputy Director for Science at CENS, Head of GIS and Remote Sensing Department

 During the day, the following were presented:

• The role of the GEO intergovernmental global organization in addressing sustainable development challenges through Earth observation

• The strategic importance of Armenia’s GEO membership and prospects for cooperation on the eve of COP17 .
