Assessing Iron Intake in Armenia: Scientific Discussion at CENS

📅 On February 27, within the framework of the state-funded target program “Assessment of Micronutrient Intake in the Republic of Armenia and Scientific-Methodological Support for Public Awareness,” a working seminar-discussion titled “Iron in the Diet of the Population of Armenia: Main Sources” was held in the hall of the Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies (CENS) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.
The program is funded by the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of RA.
🎤 At the beggining of the event, welcoming remarks were delivered by the Director of #CENS, Lilit Sahakyan, PhD. This was followed by a presentation from Meline Beglaryan,Head of the Food Security and Nutrient Assessment Group, who spoke about the biological role of iron, its importance for maintaining human health, and the significance of adequate dietary intake.
📊 In the final session, Davit Pipoyan, Head of the Center for Risk Assessment of Food Chain, presented the results of the assessment of iron intake among Armenia’s population, current trends, and an analysis of the main dietary sources.
🤝 The event was also attended by representatives of the RA Ministry of Economy and the RA Ministry of Health.
💬 The discussion took place in a constructive professional atmosphere, fostering the exchange of expertise and raising awareness of public health issues.
