EU FP7 EcoArm2ERA project (2011-2014) is cooperation and support action initiative funded by the 7th framework program of the European Commission. It is a strong cooperation between Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies of National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (Armenia), University of Geneva (Switzerland), University College Dublin (Ireland), GIRAF PM (Germany)

The central goal of the project was reinforcing the cooperation capacities of Armenia’s leading research institute in the field of GIS and Earth Observation for environmental research – the Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies of NAS RA. This overall goal was achieved through the following specific objectives: (i) to define and promote a sustainable development strategy for the CENS focusing on the overall improvement of the institution’s capacities, visibility, and competitiveness; (ii) to develop a strategic partnership between CENS and (i) the Earth Sciences Institute, University College Dublin (UCD), (ii) the Institute of Environmental Sciences, University of Geneva (UNIGE). To build a CENS’ capacity to acquire and carry out international collaborative research partnerships; (iii) to build the competencies needed by Armenian researchers and staff members in order to participate in the FP7/HORIZON2020 program. The skills gained during this project were applied to receive the first H2020 Connecting Nature project launched in 2017 and Armenia’s membership to the Group on Earth observation has been started since 2014.
